About Roger Wanrooij

Each work is a unique moment. No repetition, no noise. Only the now, made tangible.

How did your journey as an artist begin?

I started my career as a pastry chef — a world where patience, layering and precision are everything. Over time, I realized I wasn’t just creating taste, but emotion. That awareness slowly shifted me toward visual art, where I could explore meaning without limits.

What materials or mediums do you work with?

I work with epoxy resin, structure paste, natural pigments, marble dust and metal leaf. I choose materials that allow me to create depth, light reflections and a tangible sense of time.

Describe your artistic style or what you try to express.

My work is abstract and layered. I explore the tension between silence and movement — the moment before something reveals itself. It’s about capturing what normally goes unnoticed.

What inspires you the most?

Surfaces shaped by time — stone walls, patina, textures shaped by weather and erosion. I’m inspired by what nature does slowly and honestly, without trying to impress.

What do you hope people feel when they see your art?

A moment of awareness. As if time pauses for just a second. I hope people don’t just see something, but experience a shift internally — however small.

Share one personal detail or ritual that reflects who you are.

I always begin in silence. No music, no distractions — I first listen to the atmosphere of the space. For me, intuition starts before the first material is touched.

What are you aiming for next as an artist?

To continue expanding my work internationally — through art fairs, gallery collaborations, high-end interior projects and placement in serious private and public collections. My focus is on building a sustainable international presence while continuing to push the quality of the work itself — artistically, technically and conceptually. Each new body of work should feel like a step forward, not simply a continuation.
